A Sad Farewell to Dublin Dr. Pepper

The news of the lawsuit hit print back in August, but most of us thought that surely a compromise would be reached.  Leave it to over zealous, short-sighted and small-minded attorneys and over a 100 years of Texas history is gone.  Seems like a theme lately (thinking of Texas A&M).

Dr. Pepper Snapple claims on their press release that, "Our main focus has always been on protecting the strength and integrity of the Dr Pepper trademark...".  This interesting when you consider that Dublin Dr. Pepper hasn't changed the formula in 114 years of making the product.  Another interesting quote from their press release is "DPS will now distribute Dr Pepper sweetened with cane sugar throughout Dublin’s former territory, and continue to sell it in other areas of Texas, including Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston and Waco. It’s the same product Dublin sold. It will still be bottled and canned in distinct, nostalgic packaging. The only difference is it will not reference Dublin on the label."  The question, is Austin considered part of "Dublin’s former territory"?

I had always wanted to visit Dublin and very glad I did.  Who would have thought that a town and company, so imbedded in the fabric of Texas history, would end in a lawsuit?

The 20 best CDs of 2011 , by Brian Q. Newcomb It's that time of year when lists by the dozens start making their way into magazines, blogs, tweets and over the airwaves.  I'm adding to all of that by forwarding this one along.  In fact, I may even add to those before the years is up.  Actually, I probably won't add until the year has past by a few days. The list below is by Brian Q. Newcomb, one of my favorite music critics. I'm not a fan of everyone on his list, but respect his musical tastes enough to give them a spin (Thank you Spotify).  Some I have been a fan of for years and other will be a discovery.  I'm looking forward to what I will hear.
